GRANT GOING FOR GOLD

Trainer Peter Beaumont is set to enter Bobby Grant for the Tote Cheltenham Gold Cup which closes tomorrow.

His 10-year-old, who beat Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup winner King`s Road in the Tommy Whittle Chase at Haydock last time, is now officially rated at 153, making him one of the leading British-trained staying chasers around.

Beaumont said today: 'There are not many three-milers rated higher than him and I will enter him for the Gold Cup - if you are not in you can`t go.

'He is fine and he will go for the Peter Marsh Chase next.'

Beaumont also had news of Young Kenny, who was pulled out of the Welsh National at Chepstow last month because of unsuitable going.

The 10-year-old heads for the 25-furlong Rocom Chase at Wetherby on January 11th before Beaumont looks at races like the Singer & Friedlander National Trial at Uttoxeter.

'He goes to Wetherby a week on Thursday,' Beaumont said.

'It is a bit short for him but it gives a nice gap before his next race.'
