Trainer Joseph O'Brien completed an across the card treble on the evening as Galileo Sand got up in the closing strides to land the Kerry Drains INH Flat Race at Killarney.

Runner-up over course and distance here on his last start back in May, the four-year-old went one place better under a fine ride from John Gleeson.

Chasing long time leader Ripsnorter throughout, the 8/11f looked in trouble when briefly dropping back to fourth place entering the straight.

Although rallying to go by Ripsnorter at the furlong pole, Galileo Sand had a battle on his hands as Harry Swan came through to lead on Tandy's Bridge

Finding for a second time, Galileo Sand responded to Gleeson to get up inside the last 50 yards to win by half-a-length.

John Gleeson said: "He deserves that as he had been knocking on the door with some great runs in bumpers. The Galileo came out in him as he was game, gutsy and had a great attitude.

"I was quiet confident at the top of the straight and he came off the bridle early but in fairness to him the further you go the better he gets. His previous runs stood to him, it was a nice performance and it probably wasn't a bad race either."
