Galileo Springs gets Killarney favourite backers off to winning start Those that supported the Martin Brassil trained Galileo Springs into favouritism would have been on good terms with themselves after the market leader kept on nicely under Ricky Doyle to win the opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares Maiden Hurdle at Killarney. Prominent from flag fall, the 1/1f led or disputed along with Jazzy Rock, until going on early in the home straight. Asserting from the third last, the daughter of Galileo Gold was briefly pressed by Our Girl Ellie after the penultimate flight. However, despite the best efforts of the latter and the rallying Jazzy Rock, Galileo Springs was always holding them, merely having to be pushed out hands and heels to win by one-and-a-half lengths. Martin Brassil said: "She had threatened to win a few times and I thought she would have won a bumper. She had a couple of runs over hurdles before she ran in bumpers, so had experience and I also don't like to continue running them in bumpers. "She is very straightforward and if she produced her better bumper form, she would have been competitive today. We will go for either a rated novice or a handicap, and she jumps well enough for handicaps." Additional reporting by Thomas Weekes.
