Jigoro stuck on gamely in the closing stages to land a nice pot on his second outing in handicap company over fences, at Gowran Park this afternoon.

The Gordon Elliott-trained gelding had been third at Thurles in January but was easy to back today, going to post a 12/1 shot having been 5/1 this morning.

James Smith produced the Bective Stud-owned gelding to dispute turning for home in the Holden Plant Rentals Shamrock Handicap Chase.

He had a narrow advantage over the third last and kept on strongly when pressed from the final fence to record a length-and-a-quarter win over Maidenstreetprince

Assistant Ian Amond said afterwards:- "He has been running consistently and James gave him a good ride, and found the best of the ground.

“Dropping back in trip probably suited and riding him that way did the trick - he won well.

"James is in a few days a week and is a good lad who is getting plenty of opportunities.

“I'd say he will have something to ride for Gordon in the Martin Pipe Hurdle next week and maybe in some of the handicaps. He is a good lad and is taking the opportunities that he is given."
