George's daughter nears her debut

Date With Destiny, the only offspring of the ill-fated George Washington, worked at Richard Hannon's Marlborough yard for this first time on Monday morning as she nears a racecourse debut.

Owner Julie Wood splashed out 320,000 guineas for the yearling last autumn and the juvenile is pleasing connections in readiness for her first outing.

Wood said: "She is in good form and we went down to Richard's this morning to watch her do her first piece of work.

"She is a good-natured filly and is an easy mover but we'll just let her come to herself.

"We have been very pleased with her and she will show us when she is ready."

Her sire was retired to stud after winning the 2000 Guineas and the QEII Stakes in 2006, but returned to the track after fertility problems became apparent.

However, he failed to win again and had to be destroyed after breaking a leg at the 2007 Breeders' Cup meeting.
