Barry Geraghty has played down easy Ascot winner Sign Of A Victory's potential claims for the Champion Hurdle next March.

Geraghty was aboard Nicky Henderson's five-year-old when he recorded a facile half-length success over stablemate Dawalan in the Listed William Hill Handicap Hurdle.

Though clearly taken by Sign Of A Victory, Geraghty insists he has a long way to go before the Cheltenham Festival can enter the equation.

He told his At The Races blog: "(He) couldn't have won the Listed two-mile handicap hurdle much easier, although talk of the Champion Hurdle seems a long way off at the moment.

"Don't get me wrong, he is a lovely horse and Nicky will bring out his potential, but that's a massive leap.

"All we know about him at the moment is that he's a horse that has pace under the right conditions."
