Gerard Butler hearing concludes

Gerard Butler's British Horseracing Authority disciplinary panel hearing over his use of the drug Sungate has concluded.

The Newmarket trainer is charged with breaking seven rules over his use of the joint treatment, which contains an anabolic steroid, on nine horses in his care.

The BHA confirmed the horses had tested positive for stanozolol when samples were taken on February 20, while other charges include injecting the horses himself, despite not being a qualified or registered veterinary surgeon, and failing to keep a record of treatments.

While some of the charges can lead to a financial penalty, a positive test of a sample taken at training premises can mean a disqualification from racing for up to 10 years.

The result is not expected to be released before the end of the week.

The BHA tweeted: "The disciplinary panel hearing involving Gerard Butler has concluded this afternoon.

"(The) panel will now consider evidence before publishing result, any penalties that may apply and reasons for their decisions in due course.

"It is unlikely that result, penalty and reasons will be published before end of this week. BHA cannot comment further until this time."
