Gevrey stayed on gamely in the closing stages to make the breakthrough over fences at Fairyhouse this afternoon.

The Gordon Elliott-trained gelding had been knocking on the door this season and travelled best to lead turning for home today, under Davy Russell.

He was asked for an effort going to the final fence and had to pull out all the stops on the run-in as both Nobody Home and Kavanaghs Corner finished off well to press the 6/1 winner close home.

Gevrey prevailed by three-parts-of-a-length from Nobody Home with just a head back to Kavanaghs Corner.

It was a second career success for Gevrey and his first since landing a maiden hurdle at Limerick in November 2020.

Russell said afterwards:- “The step up in trip slowed everything down for him. He jumped great and got into a lovely rhythm.

"He finished off his race better than I expected and plugged on well. He jumped the third last really quick and I didn’t want to disappoint him.”
