Ghostwriter is set to bypass the Sky Bet York Stakes this weekend in favour of the Coral Glorious Stakes at the Qatar Goodwood Festival.

The five-year-old made his long-awaited return from injury in the Wolferton Stakes at Royal Ascot, but finished 12th of 16 runners following his 360-day lay-off.

Kia Joorabchian, who founded the Amo Racing operation which owns the Kevin Philippart De Foy-trained colt, said the £2million purchase will not head for the Knavesmire and instead wait for the Group Three contest on the Sussex Downs on August 1.

“He won’t be running at York this weekend, he’s going to the Group Three at Goodwood,” Joorabchian told the Press Association.

“Kevin’s thought process was that he was injured for so long, he came out first time at Royal Ascot in a tough race. Get him to win a Group Three or come very close and build him in the next race which will be in America.

“We will probably take him to Belmont after that.”
