Connections have opted for a veterinary examination after Intense Raffles finished unplaced in the Grade 3 Bobbyjo Steeplechase at Fairyhouse last month.

The Martaline gelding memorable landed the Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse almost two years ago which was his last victory.

Tom Gibney said: “We sent him down to (vet) Ger Kelly to try and find out what is going on.

“I had a sneaking feeling coming home from the Thyestes (pulled up, Gowran Park, January) that something was bothering him, it’s just so hard sometimes to work out what it is.

“We’re working on it.

“He’s entered in the Irish National and the English National but just to get him healthy and pain free is the goal, and to see if we can get him to show what he’s capable of.”
