Gifford Keen To Strike With Castle

Nick Gifford says numerous options remain open to Killaghy Castle, despite the end of the 2006/07 National Hunt season beginning to loom large.

The promising seven-year-old made a big impression at Newbury on his seasonal reappearance before suffering an overreach behind Fair Along in December.

He enjoyed an easy success on his return from that setback last month, however, and could yet run at Aintree next month.

'It couldn't have worked out better last time and it's nice when things fall into your lap like that ? you've got to take advantage of it,' Gifford said.

'He's absolutely fine and I've made an entry for him in the Powers Gold Cup at Fairyhouse.

'We shall just see what happens there with regard to the ground and there is also a novice chase at Ascot next weekend, but it would have to be decent ground for him to go there.

'There's also Aintree that we're thinking of as well. But we're stuck in no man's land with the trip there as it would have to be either two or three (miles).

'I'd have to speak with the owners, but if the ground was good we would certainly like to go to Aintree.'
