Gilts grabs her opportunity on handicap debut The seven-furlong three-year-old handicap at Gowran Park featured seven handicap debutants in a field of 12 and one of the contingent stepping out of maiden company was victorious. Ridden by Jack Cleary, Gilts (28/1) got a good position from a low draw and made headway to move into contention in the centre of the straight where the runners fanned out across the width of the track.  In front a furlong out, the Max Plapp-owned Cotai Glory filly kept on well to score by a length and a-quarter from Pocket Jacks. Winning trainer Dick Brabazon said "We are delighted with her.  "Jack just said that she is mentally immature, which is lovely to hear when they have won. That would fit, as she just didn't know what she was doing in her earlier races and things didn't quite go right.  "I walked the course there before racing and I thought the ground was lovely. She had a super draw and I just thought everything was in place for her to run a good race.  "You never know in their first handicap. Anyway, it worked out well and she is maturing which is great. She is 51, so even if she gets clobbered she'll probably still be in a 0-60, which gives us options. Jack said between seven and a mile suits." Additional reporting by John O'Riordan
