Goldback wins at Ascot Roberto Goldback won an incident packed renewal of the United House Gold Cup Handicap Chase at Ascot. The 10 year old was racing in the colours of Simon Munir for the first time since being bought out of Jessica Harrington's yard and gained an immediate return on his purchase in the valuable three mile contest. The field had been reduced by three with a circuit still to run with market leader Ace High pulling up not long after Le Beau Bai had brought down Tullamore Dew. As a result of those incidents, two of the last three fences were dolled off on the final circuit and there was more drama to come as the fall of the strong-travelling Frisco Depot saw Cannington Brook and Join Together hampered. That had little impact on Roberto Goldback, however, who was travelling strongly at the head of affairs and he only needed to be kept up to his work to record an eight length success, his first victory since April 2011. The places were filled by Duke Of Lucca and Alfie Spinner but the day was all about Nicky Henderson with victory completing a treble on the card for the Lambourn handler and a double for Geraghty.
