Gonna Be Golden showed the benefit of her debut run here last month when taking division two of the Irish EBF Median Sires Series Fillies Maiden at Dundalk.

Owned and trained by Andy Oliver, the 9/2 shot was ridden to take a slight advantage over the front-running Great Plains Lady about a furlong out.

The pair fought out a pulsating finish with Chris Hayes’ mount just prevailing by a head, with a gap of five and a half lengths back to Neon Eyes who put in some good work in the closing stages on debut.

Oliver said, “We always liked this filly. She was named after a song my boys sing quite a bit - it is quite an upbeat song and it is a line from that.

"She had a nice run first time and worked well during the week, so stepped up.

"We think there is plenty of improvement, and she was green when she hit the front. She's having a nice blow there, but I liked her attitude. The horse came to her and she found again.

"Chris gave a good report, so that is always nice.

"She is (one for turf as well). We will put her away and we'll see for the beginning of the year - maybe start thinking of trials.

"She has shown us a bit at home, so we were thinking that she was well able to step up on her maiden and they did stretch five-and-a-half-lengths clear.

"It looks like that (she would get the mile), she hit the line strong even though she was green. The other horse came to her, and she was probably strongest at the line."
