Good Fare at Thurles

Thurles tomorrow provides much of interest, from the clash of Kahuna and Sandy Owen in the opening www.thurlesraces.ie Beginners Chase to the seasonal reappearance of the very promising prospect, That's An Idea.

Despite being an excellent jumper of fences, Kahuna has now come a cropper on his first two attempts over the larger obstacles. A certain winner when over-jumping at the last and failing to get his landing gear out at Clonmel a fortnight ago, Ruby Walsh now takes the mount for the first time on Eamonn Sheehy's seven-year-old.

An almost definite favourite to make it third time lucky now, the most obvious danger among his fifteen rivals is Sandy Owen. Pat Fahy's charge was running a cracking race when hitting the deck on his initial try in a chase at Punchestown twelve days ago. Winner of a bumper, a hurdle and twice on the level, including at this course, Barry Geraghty will get the leg-up on the Insan gelding.

The sad loss of Inexorable at Cork on Sunday last is sure to have put a real cloud over the David Wachman yard. However life goes on as the saying says, and That's An Idea faces a duo of useful mares in the shapes of Mrs Wallensky and Sunami Storm in the feature race, the INH Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Novice Hurdle.

Reported to be in good shape in the Preview of the National Hunt season on this website, Wachman suggested the SunAlliance Hurdle as a likely target for the season. Hopefully the J P McManus-owned gelding can keep his unbeaten racecourse record intact.
