Nearer last than first turning for home, Miss Australie came with a strong late run under Adam Caffrey to win the concluding Roscommon Handicap.

A 14-race maiden, the Ado McGuinness trained mare looked to relish this stiff test of stamina as she belatedly opened her account for owners S Reddy, D Dhand, N Walsh, P Murphy.

Sent off 6/1, the daughter of Belardo was ridden in mid division with over two-furlongs to race.

Still only fourth at the furlong pole, the five-year-old kept on well inside the final furlong to head Deluca Chop close home for a one-and-three-quarter length win.

“The ground was probably a big help,” said McGuinness.

“I’m delighted for the lads, they are west of Ireland people. Noel Walsh and the lads, and Dave Keena has a leg in her as well.

“She was very frustrating when we got her first but she ran well the last day in Ballinrobe, and it wouldn’t have suited her.

“Today on a good galloping track, and they went a right gallop, suited better.

“In fairness to Adam he was very good on her, he took his time and she finished out really well. I thought it was a very good ride, a clever ride.

“We’ll tip away with her. She is what she is and we’ll have a bit of fun with her.”
