Gossamer best of 1000 Guineas winners Gossamer officially put up the best 1000 Guineas performance this year when easily winning the Entenmann`s-sponsored Irish version at the Curragh on Sunday. Luca Cumani`s filly put up a spectacular display on the soft going to beat Quarter Moon by four and a half lengths and in the process erase the memory of a lack-lustre effort behind Kazzia in the Sagitta 1000 Guineas at Newmarket. 'That is the best Guineas performance we`ve seen this year, certainly better than Kazzia, certainly better than Zenda in France and certainly better than the German and Italian Guineas,' said British Horseracing Board handicapper Dominic Gardiner-Hill. 'I think she probably is a pretty good Guineas winner. She came back and showed she had trained on and showed her real self in Ireland rather than the filly we saw at Newmarket on May 5th.' Gardiner-Hill has discussed Gossamer`s new rating with his Irish counterpart and he went on: 'I`ve spoken to Gary O`Gorman in Ireland this morning. I think we`ve probably agreed a mark of 118 for Gossamer. 'I think I will be publishing a mark of 118 for her next week. 'She was on 114 which was a mark gained in her two-year-old days rather than the performance she put up in the 1000 Guineas. 'Kazzia we have on 113 and there is a direct line there involving Quarter Moon, who was beaten one and a half lengths by Kazzia in the Guineas and was also beaten four and a half lengths by Gossamer on Sunday. 'At the moment we are looking at her being 5lb superior to Kazzia.' Gossamer`s next intended target is the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot and Gardiner-Hill added: 'She will set the standard at Royal Ascot.' Cumani reports the daughter of Sadler`s Wells to have taken Sunday`s race in her stride. He said: 'She`s come out of the race very well. She`s just arrived back and the flight went well and everything is good.' The Newmarket trainer believes his charge will be equally effectiveon better going and said: 'I think she`ll be able to prove herself on faster ground. She`s never given me any cause for concern when she`s worked on the faster ground.' One of her rivals at Royal Ascot could be Queen`s Logic, who is the top-rated three-year-old filly on 122. Untimely setbacks prevented Mick Channon`s stable star from running in either the Newmarket or Curragh Classics.
