Governors Rock brought up plenty of bets when staying on best in the concluding bumper on Wexford's card.

He was always to the fore and closed on Alaskan View inside the final quarter of a mile.

Georgie Benson sent him past that rival approaching the final furlong and the four-year-old gelding, trained by Peter John Flood, won going away by three and a-half lengths at 6/1 having been available at 33/1 in the morning.

Alaskan View was all the rage at the track as her price was hammered down from 11/2 to 9/4 favourite, but she had to settle for the runner-up berth. Pointwelltaken completed the placings at 80/1.

Benson said: "He just probably lacked experience the first day (eighth in Bellewstown) and he is probably from more of a staying type of family. He improved a lot from his last run, he did a nice bit of work during the week there and probably shocked me at how well he did it. He is a lovely-bred horse and is definitely one for the future.

"I just kept him wide for a bit of better ground. He is still only learning and I didn't want to bog him down on the wetter stuff. I kept him nice and wide and as soon as I said go, he took off."
