Troytown Chase-winner Answer To Kayf is to be aimed at the Grand National on April 11, with trainer Terence O’Brien also planning a Fairyhouse prep run in the Bobbyjo Chase.

The Denis O’Connor-owned gelding landed Navan’s Troytown Chase on heavy ground in November and, having finished fourth in last month’s Thyestes Chase at Gowran, trainer O’Brien has made an entry for Aintree.

Answer To Kayf retains his Irish chase rating of 150 and O’Brien reports “he couldn't be better and will probably run in the Bobbyjo Chase next, and we also entered him for the Aintree Grand National.

"The National is probably a shot to nothing as he is a ten-year-old, but I think he will get in. He probably won't get soft ground, but I'd say we'll let him take his chance as it is an iconic race. Both ourselves and the owner might never get a chance to run in the race again and the horse has earned a shot at it.

"After winning the Troytown you'd be disappointed to finish fourth in the Thyestes but, at the same time, I couldn't find a Troytown winner who followed up in the Thyestes that same season. Maybe the penalty catches them, but he wasn't too far off the third-horse at Gowran, so there wasn't a whole lot wrong with the run either."
