Grandera likely to bypass Ascot

Grandera is 'unlikely' to take on dual Derby winner Galileo in next Saturday`s King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes, James Fanshawe revealed today.

The French Derby third is quoted at 16-1 for the Ascot showpiece by Ladbrokes, after going down by just half a length to Medicean in the Coral Eurobet Eclipse Stakes at Sandown a fortnight ago.

But he looks set to be given more time to recover from those exertions rather than tackle Britain`s middle-distance championship event, for which Galileo is odds-on favourite.

'Grandera is in good form but he is unlikely to run next weekend,' his trainer said. 'It looks a tough contest and we will probably with a bit longer with him.'

Grandera`s absence would allow regular jockey Michael Hills to ride his father Barry`s Storming Home in next Saturday`s Stg£750,000 event.
