Gray leads the way in the 'flaps' Fifteen year old Shane Gray leads the way at the head of the ‘flapping’ Riders’ Championship at present and while the Dundalk rider is keen on winning the title, he intends joining the jockeys’ ranks later this year. Gray, whose brother Steven won the 2009 Galway Hurdle, finished second in last Sunday’s Dingle Derby and has 38 winners ridden this season, four more than his nearest pursuer Ross Coakley. Gray today mentioned “hopefully I can win this year’s flapping title but I hope to get my full jockeys’ license when I turn 16 in November. I am set to join Tommy Stack’s yard next week and hopefully I will gain my apprenticeship there."
