Greyhound men pleased with Princess Yaiza's progress Two leading figures from the greyhound world, Michael Dunphy and Ian Reilly, are enjoying the ride with their equine interest, Princess Yaiza. She went back-to-back at Dundalk on Friday night. From their County Waterford farm the Dunphy-family have bred and reared some legendary canine stars, many carrying the Droopys-prefix. The Reilly name meanwhile, is synonymous with the greyhound game in Ireland. Ian Reilly is currently carrying the baton and he's trained some top performers down the years at his County Meath kennels. Reilly stayed close to home when choosing a handler for Princess Yaiza, as Gavin Cromwell has care of the juvenile at his Navan-base. The Casamento chestnut began at the Curragh in the summer, before coming forward nicely for a third place finish at Fairyhouse in October. That left her well-placed to progress to the number one spot, which occurred when she debuted on the polytrack at Dundalk on November 24th. There was strong market interest in Princess Yaiza to follow-up then last time, and with champion jockey Colin Keane up, she justified favouritism stylishly in nursery company. Cromwell is hopeful there's more to come and he said: "She's very progressive and when she steps up in trip she will improve. "Depending on what the handicapper does there's a race for her in Dundalk in early February and we'll take it from there. "Ian would be local to me but I don't the Dunphys terribly long. I actually only met Michael at Tramore the other day for the first time to be honest. "Their Siempre Amigos ran down there but the fact that she only has the one eye doesn't make life the easiest for her. "The boys bred that filly as well."
