Ground and draw concerns for Power

Edward Lynam fears things could have conspired against Sole Power ahead of his bid for glory in the Prix de l'Abbaye at Longchamp on Sunday.

The five-year-old has been one of the most consistent top-class sprinters in training since his 100-1 victory in the Nunthorpe Stakes at York a couple of years ago, but has found victories difficult to come by.

He gained a deserved return to the winner's enclosure when stamping his class on a Listed race at Doncaster last month and his trainer had been looking forward to seeing him return to Group One level.

However, his enthusiasm has been tempered by the soft conditions in prospect in Paris and an unfavourable high draw.

Lynam said: "He's arrived at Longchamp and all is fine with him.

"It looks like the ground isn't going to be in our favour unfortunately, but we hope things will improve.

"He is drawn high as well in stall 15, so things haven't fallen our way with the ground and the draw, but it's the end of the season and at this stage we'll probably let him take his chance.

"He's in great form, so it's a shame things aren't in his favour, but there's nothing we can do about it. He could go to Hong Kong later in the year if he gets invited and Dubai would be the plan for him in the spring."
