O'Connor finds a good rhythm on Samba Train

The market principals Poetic Twist (9/4) and Samba Train (2/1 favourite) had a great tussle up the straight in Killarney's opener, the Easy Clean Mares Maiden Hurdle over two and three-quarter miles, with the latter coming out on top.

The pair pulled clear of their rivals from two out and, after Poetic Twist and Jack Kennedy gained a narrow advantage on the run-in, Aine O'Connor's mount found a bit more and, despite drifting right, got up close home to win by a neck.

Samba Train was running for the first time since finishing fourth on hurdling debut at Thurles just before Christmas.

Winning trainer Enda Bolger said "It was her first time at that trip, she stayed well and, like her owner (Sir Francis Brooke), she is a pleasure.

"We had previously been found out in a Listed race at Thurles but that was on soft ground, and she is a well-bred mare who has two bumpers and a maiden hurdle won now.

"She was slick over her hurdles, saw it out well and she'll keep going for the summer."
