Fairyhouse report no problems with the ground ahead of their New Year's Day meeting but the prospect of high winds is a concern with Storm Gertrude due to hit on Friday.

The ground is heavy at the Ratoath course after 12.7mm of rain overnight and manager Peter Roe said today he has no issues with the going.

“Our big problem could be wind with the next storm coming in on Friday,” said Roe.

“From a rain point of view we're not concerned. The track is perfectly raceable and we don't seem to have any issues there.

“The wind is hard to judge however. At the Hatton's Grace meeting you wouldn't have put a horse out in it at 11.30 but at 12.30 we were fine.

“Because the wind can change so suddenly we are just going to have to keep an eye on it close to the racing.”
