Group 3 Chester double for the O'Brien's Memphis Tennessee completed a Group 3 double for Aidan & Joseph O'Brien as he made a winning return in the Boodles Diamond Ormonde Stakes at Chester this afternoon. In the absence of Sea Moon, just four runners went to post for this contest over a mile and five furlongs with last year's St Leger second Brown Panther making his return also. Michael Owen's colt was content to sit in behind the early pace set by Joseph O'Brien aboard the eventual winner but Kieren Fallon kicked his mount into the lead passing the winning post for the first time, raising a few cheers from the packed stands. Fallen and Brown Panther were soon challenged on their outside by Vivacious Vivienne who famously came close to lowering the colours of Fame And Glory last season. The mare saw off the challenge of Brown Panther who looked in trouble approaching the straight and was eased right down to finish last. O'Brien had been content to let those two rivals race in front of him but moved his son of Hurricane Run into a challenging position as the field straightened out and the four year old ran onto score by four lengths. An honourable mention goes to third home - and almost second - Calico Cat as Alistair Lidderdale's four year old was having his first start and will have provided young jockey Katia Scallan with one of the biggest days of her career. The winner had failed to win in three starts last season although he did finish fourth in the Epsom Derby and third in the Irish equivalent and delighted his connections in getting his head back in front today. O'Brien junior said: "He ran a bit keen coming along the straight first time as there was a horse on my girth annoying me but after that he settled lovely. "I took a lead and I was happy with where I was the whole way. He was just dossing up the home straight. "He's a massive horse and a good mover. You'd like to think he's improved a lot from three to four. "He'd certainly be a better horse on nicer ground." The winning trainer said: "We're delighted with him. He was a lovely horse last year, but he's grown up a lot. "He's a lovely mover and I have no doubt he'll be better on better ground. "He's matured from three to four and he has all the options as he's not a Group One winner. "It won't be a problem to drop back in trip with him and we might consider races like the the Coronation Cup or the Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot. He's open to everything."
