Group Success For Yomalo

Yomalo struck in Group company at the first time of asking with a gritty success under Pat Smullen in the Ballyogan Stakes at Leopardstown.

Newmarket-based Rae Guest's six-year-old stepped up to the occasion in fine style, producing a fierce burst of speed to beat Noelani by half a length.

Fellow British raider Mecca's Mate held every chance in the final furlong but could only take third and Miss Sally, sent off the 11-8 favourite, also failed to make the frame and finished fourth.

Guest said of his 9-1 winner: 'She has improved over the last two years and she loves firm ground.

'She usually likes a faster pace but I am not complaining and she loves a stiff finish.

'She is in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot but she needs a few to come out, although she might get a penalty for this.'

Kevin Prendergast's Mustameet landed his fourth career success with a thrilling victory in the Listed Jockey Club Of Turkey Glencairn Stakes over a mile.

The five-year-old was one of four horses who were in line with 50 yards to go but the 5-1 chance proved the strongest, getting home with a neck to spare from the front-running Chelsea Rose.

Lord Admiral, third to Hurricane Run in the Tattersalls Gold Cup last time out, was sent off the 100-30 favourite and finished third with Luas Line putting in an eyecatching performance in fourth.

Prendergast said: 'He likes it around here and is a good, genuine, honest horse who always runs up to or near his mark.

'He settled and quickened well here and we will keep him at this class and perhaps go for a race in Italy or Germany.'
