Hannon/Spillane Off Mark

The Brannockstown Mares Maiden Hurdle was marred by the death of Fly Vic who broke her hind leg, but for Ian Hannon, trainer and rider, Denis Spillane, it will live long in the memory as it was a first success for both under Rules. Their well-backed charge, Kind Oscar (9/2 into 3/1) ran out a clear-cut six length winner.

Ian was represented by his father, James, from Tallow, Co. Waterford and he said: "We've eight riding out at the moment, mainly point-to-pointers and my son James would have ridden the horse but he couldn't do the weight.

"Denny Spillane rides out for us so he took the ride. She stays well so she wanted the two and a half miles."

Denny Spillane has had nine point-to-point winners. (EM)
