Martin Harley was due to be discharged from hospital on Friday after his horror fall at Lingfield earlier this week.

Harley, who rides as stable jockey to Marco Botti, suffered neck and rib injuries in a nasty incident when ill-fated Red Art clipped the heels of horses in front of him on Wednesday.

His agent Neil Allan said: "I've spoken to Martin and he's being discharged later today, which is good news. He'll need to rest up a little so there's no timescale on his return yet. He'll be wearing a neck collar for a few weeks, but it could have been so much worse."

He added: "I went straight to Redhill Hospital after it happened because it looked so serious. Martin would like to thank all the medical staff who treated him, they were great.

"It's heartbreaking timing, right on the start of the Flat season, but as I told him it's not like jumps racing, which only looks forward to Cheltenham - he has Ascot, Epsom and Goodwood to look forward to and now he's with Marco he's got all sorts to look forward to when he gets back."
