Trainer Jessica Harrington has appointed Shane Foley to be her number one jockey for the 2019 Flat season.

Foley, who won the Irish 1000 Guineas on Jet Setting in 2016 and the Irish 2000 Guineas on Romanised in 2018, replaces Colm O’Donoghue.

“It’s lovely, I’m delighted to welcome Shane,” said the Co Kildare-based trainer.

“He’s ridden a lot for me before. He rode a Classic winner last year, so let’s hope it a happy association.”

Foley’s biggest success for the Harrington stable last year came at Listed level on Sparkle’n’joy in the Ballylinch Stud Irish EBF Ingabelle Stakes at Leopardstown.

His latest big-race triumph came on Platinum Warrior in the Grade Two San Marcos Stakes for American trainer John Sadler at Santa Anita earlier this month.

O’Donoghue enjoyed high-profile wins for Harrington last season on Alpha Centauri, racking up four Group Ones — including the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot, which the filly won by six lengths.
