The Irish Stallion Farms EBF Academy Hurdle at Cork was the first in a new series of races for unraced three-year-olds and it was won by the Jessica Harrington-trained Quinta Do Lago (15/2).

The Galiway gelding, who cost 95,000 Euro as a yearling, tracked the leaders under Donagh Meyler and moved up to join Out Of Aces at the second-last. Soon in front and showing signs of greenness, he was left clear when Out Of Aces blundered at the last and stayed on well to beat Lucy The Wire by five and a half lengths.

The winner is owned in partnership by Dan Kiely and P V Breen.

Meyler said: "It took him a little bit to warm up into it and he jumped showjumper-like early but he was very good and the further he went, the better he was going. He hit the line well and it was a taking performance, so I couldn't have been any happier with him.

"I had schooled him plenty at home and at the Curragh, he is a well-mannered horse and there is plenty more progression in him."
