Harry on Gold Cup trail

Diamond Harry will have no more than one run before bidding for glory in the totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup following his fine victory in the Hennessy.

The Nick Williams-trained second-season chaser, carrying the colours of the Paul Duffy Diamond Partnership, may even go straight for the Blue Riband of jump racing in March after taking Newbury's prestigious staying handicap chase on Saturday.

Should he have one more run, then the Lexus Chase at Leopardstown over Christmas or back to Cheltenham for the trials meeting in January are among the obvious options.

"Where we go next, Nick and I will debate," said owner Duffy.

"We definitely don't want more than one run and go for the Gold Cup now.

"We have to go for it, really, but what do we do between now and then?

"He might be entered for the Lexus. There are several options, and one of them is to go straight for the Gold Cup as he goes so well fresh.

"The first race he ran in was a bumper at Newbury and we waited another year to run him again in the same race which he won again.

"He needs to be fresh - all horses by Sir Harry Lewis follow that line.

"Daryl (Jacob) gave him a great ride. We made the right decision and stood by our stable jockey and he justified it. It was fantastic."
