Breathe Easy at 7/2 made all to give trainer Sabrina Harty a double on Oaks day at the Curragh.

The four-year-old gelding ran in the mile and one handicap and had Rory Cleary in the saddle. Cleary got him away smartly. Zarib who tracked him in second was beginning to be pushed along at the three pole. The response wasn’t immediate as he struggled to catch the leader. Breathe Easy kept up the gallop and although his advantage was reduced he didn’t look like being caught.

The winning margin was a length and a half to Specific Gravity (12/1) who stayed on well to take second. Zarib kept on, but was a neck off Specific Gravity at 8/1.

Sabrina Harty said: “That’s fantastic. He has serious ability but he’s so nervous. In his head he’s very fragile. The last day we couldn’t find anything wrong with him, but we parked our lorry at the mile start here and maybe he just didn’t want to go away from the lorry. Rory gave him a fantastic ride and got him settled early on.”

Harty earlier saddled Ansgar to win the Group 3 Minstrel Stakes on the card. Breathe Easy had been 11/1 this morning, however, there were three non runners in this race, Dynamite Dixie, Shalamzar and Gone Viral.
