Connections of Coney Island are looking forward to making plans for the eight-year-old after being encouraged by his run in the Savills Chase at Leopardstown.

The Eddie Harty-trained gelding was still in contention at the final fence of the Grade One contest when a mistake cost him his chance.

However, Harty was happy with the performance and reports Coney Island to have taken the race well.

“He came out of it fine. I was very pleased with him. He was challenging up to the last. He clouted the last and it knocked the wind out of his sails which was a pity but it was very encouraging,” said the Curragh handler.

“The race was only last Friday and it’s been a busy period for Frank (Berry, racing manager to owner JP McManus) so we haven’t had chance to sit down and discuss a plan.

“We’ll probably do it later in the week now that things have quietened down after the Christmas period.

“He’s come out of the race very well, he ran very well up to a mistake at the last. He was a challenger. There were lots of positives to take from it.

“He jumped very well in the main. It was just the last fence. Overall I was very pleased with him.”
