The John McConnell trained Hasten Slowly stayed on well close home to win the featured Bluegrass Horse Feeds Handicap Hurdle at Tramore.

Winner of her maiden hurdle over course and distance last October, the five-year-old had finished second at this track on her last visit in May.

Tracking the leaders throughout under Alex Harvey, the 12/1 chance went third after jumping what is usually the second last flight.

However, with the last being omitted following an earlier faller, Hasten Slowly came through to lead Expound on the run-in, before holding on well from Granpa Ger

Alex Harvey said: "She just seems to grow an extra leg around here. She is a handy filly off the Flat and goes like a motorbike around the bends here. She's had a busy time of lately but battled gamely between horses today. They got away from me down the hill, but we tipped along and I was happy enough to come with one rattle.

"Jumping is probably her biggest asset even I though fell off her one day in Killarney. She is very good and very slick.

"It's great for her owner David Thompson, who is great supporter of myself and John and he deserves every bit of luck he gets.

"I've only two winners left on the 5lb claim. It's kind of a bittersweet realisation but I'm enjoying it and I'll just take what comes and keep working hard."
