Hayes hoping Bay can Star at Down Royal Chris Hayes is 'hopeful' of a big run from Bay Of Stars in the Boyle Sports Ulster Derby at Down Royal this afternoon. The Dermot Weld-trained colt makes his second outing in handicap company today in the 100,000 euro feature event and looks like a leading contender. He finished off well when runner-up to Darius Dark at Leopardstown last time, getting within half-a-length at the line. The Juddmonte-owned son of New Bay had been a maiden winner at Dundalk previously and makes just his fourth career outing now. When asked about the ground for his charge Hayes said yesterday:- "I think he should be fine, hopefully they get a dry night and it will dry it out a bit. "If it comes back to kind of yielding ground, I think he will run a big race. "He has a nice light weight and we put the cheek-pieces on just because you need to travel around here. "I'd be hopeful."
