The Eamonn Gallagher-trained God Help Us stayed on best in attritional conditions to take the Lodge At Ashford Castle Handicap Chase at a rain lashed Ballinrobe.

Three jumped the last together in the two-mile-seven contest with Gold Help Us coming to join Ballagh Star and My Friend The Wind

It was 12/1 shot Gold Help Us who finished off the strongest on the run-in as he went on from Ballagh Star to record a length-and-a-half victory under Simon Torrens.

Torrens said:- "He's won a point-to-point. He's probably a quirky sort of horse but I rode him the last day at Limerick and learned loads about him.

"I rode him a bit differently today and it paid off. He stayed well and I'm delighted for Eamonn and for John O'Meara who owns him.

"The ground is as soft as it's been here all summer. Usually over fences here, you're going lickety-split so it was a big change to be hacking around there today."
