Nicky Henderson has booked Ryan Moore and Richard Hughes for his two runners in Saturday's Betfred Cesarewitch at Newmarket.

Champion jockey Hughes rides Earth Amber with Moore, his closest pursuer in this year's title race, aboard stablemate Lieutenant Miller.

"This has been the plan for Lieutenant Miller for some time," Henderson said. "After his runs at Royal Ascot and Goodwood it seemed the natural thing to do.

"He had a couple of hard races there but he is a toughened performer and we have given him a little freshen up. He has gone up in the weights without winning a race but that is just a fact of life in racing and fast ground definitely suits him.

"Earth Amber might prefer the ground a bit easier, a drop of rain would help her. She was quite fit when she came over from France where she had just finished second to a horse called Les Beaufs, who went on to win a Group 1, and we then decided to shelve plans to run her over hurdles last winter."

Runner-up in a Listed race at Nottingham on her British debut in April, Earth Amber has not been seen since finishing seventh to the subsequent Ascot Gold Cup winner, Estimate, in the Group 3 Sagaro Stakes at Ascot in May.

"She has had a good summer and done well physically," Henderson said. "In fact she is the best I've had her looking, she looks great in her coat."

Asked about his fine recent Cesarewitch record, which has brought wins with Landing Light in 2003 and Caracciola in 2008, Henderson said: "These staying races suit National Hunt horses who are born and bred to stay. I was a bit surprised each time that I won it, but you would have to say that this year both my horses have a very good chance on the book."
