Henrythenavigator runs out narrow winner of Sussex Stakes

Aidan O'Brien's Henrythenavigator made it four Group 1 wins this season, when getting the better of Raven's Pass, by a diminishing head in a thrilling renewal of the Sussex Stakes over 1m.

For once the Ballydoyle pacemaker, Windsor Palace, failed to set a true gallop and Johnny Murtagh on the winner, along with Richard Hughes on Major Cadeaux, decided to take matters in to their own hands at the two furlong marker.

As Major Cadeaux's stamina faded, Raven's Pass loomedlarge on the Outside. However try as he might, Jimmy Fortune on the runner-up, could not quite get to Henrythenavigator who showed he has guts as well as class.

The winner returned the 4-11 favourite and Winning Jockey Murtagh was quick to pay credit to his willing partner."He's a great horse and he won't be beaten this year.

"They did not go fast enough as this lad loves a fast pace to quicken off. He was idling in the last furlong."
