Hills Waits On Guineas Ride

Michael Hills has stressed he has not yet decided between Killybegs and Red Clubs as his mount in the Stan James 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on Saturday.

Of the two colts trained by his father Barry, it had been reported that Hills would be aboard Greenham Stakes winner Red Clubs rather than Craven victor Red Clubs.

However, the jockey said he would not choose until after he has partnered both horses at work tomorrow.

'I've not made my mind up yet,' Hills told At The Races.

'I'm going down tomorrow morning to ride the horses work and there's not really much between the two, but I'm going to give them a chance to see how they have come out of their last race.

'If one has come out better than the other that could sway me tomorrow morning.

'In the trials, both horses won very well. There was plenty of pace in both races, the horses were in the right spot and they both finished extremely well.

'Red Clubs probably blew a little bit more than Killybegs but Killybegs has improved from two to three an awful lot.

'Red Clubs is a real professional and he ran a lot of times last year. He got into a few battles and sometimes that can help you in the Guineas and he quickened up very well.'

Hills believed that both horses would take their chance on Saturday, even though connections had considered running Killybegs in the French 2000 Guineas at Longchamp on Sunday week instead.

'There has been talk of Killybegs going for the French Guineas instead and Dad talked to the owners yesterday. I've not spoken to Dad this morning yet but I think they will probably both run in the English Guineas,' Hills continued.

'It's a close call and whoever picks up the spare is going to have a very good ride. Let's hope they are first and second.'

The sponsors quote Killybegs at 14-1 with Red Clubs at 20-1.
