Hills to run Equiano & Prime in July Cup Barry Hills will run both Equiano and Prime Defender in Friday's Darley July Cup at Newmarket. Prime Defender has won twice this season already and has been a regular in the Group One race but was only ninth behind Starspangledbanner in the Golden Jubilee at Royal Ascot. The Royal meeting saw Equiano lift the King's Stand Stakes for the second time. "The two older sprinters Equiano and Prime Defender have been flying the flag for yard this season and they will clash in the July Cup," the trainer told www.barryhills.com. "It is going to be some race but we are hopeful they will both be up there. Equiano has an extra furlong to go than at Ascot, but he definitely wasn't stopping in the King's Stand and could be hard to catch. "Prime Defender will be contesting his fourth July Cup, and he has run well in the race before. He's at the top of his game and should also be bang there on his running in the Golden Jubilee."
