Hogan's Hexagonal wins Roscommon's opening claimer Hexagonal (4/1) registered a second career success today, landing Roscommon’s opening QuinnBet Apprentice Optional Claiming Race for trainer Denis Hogan, jockey Reese Holohan and owners the T&M Partnership. Although briefly short of room two furlongs out, the five-year-old son of Lope De Vega finished well and held on to score by a neck from Kakori. Holohan reported “Hexagonal jumped very smart, so I rode forward just to keep my position. I had one in front of me and one outside me, so had cover and I got him lovely and settled. Turning into the straight he was travelling very well but I just had to bide my time and wait for a gap to come. “He was strong enough to jostle his way out, kick on and win nicely at the line. “Denis knows exactly what he’s doing with him and has things pinpointed. I’m just very thankful to be getting rides from people like him.” Eighth-placed Moyassr was the only horse to be claimed, having been picked up for €7,000 by trainer Ado McGuinness.
