Hogan Planning Chepstow Raid

Tom Hogan will bring an interesting pair of Irish raiders to Chepstow on Saturday.

The Tipperary trainer's main aim is to get Sonnyanjoe qualified for the Cheltenham Festival in the Pertemps Handicap Hurdle, while Kirbybroguelantern is likely to have to take on some well-regarded sorts in the Ballymore Ontario Tower Novices? Hurdle (registered as the Persian War).

The latter won three bumpers over the summer before finishing third in a Flat race last time, while the former landed the Summer Festival Handicap Hurdle at Newton Abbot last month.

'Kirbybroguelantern is having his first run over hurdles and he looks like a natural jumper,' said Hogan.

'He's done well so far and it's easier to find a race for a nice horse in Britain, as in Ireland there would be dozens in a race like that.

'He is coming along with Sonnyanjoe, who we want to get in the Pertemps. It's a long way to Cheltenham but you have to make plans for horses and Paddy Brennan, who rode him at Newton Abbot, will ride again.

'I brought Native Sparkle over to be third in the Persian War in 2002 and the nice galloping track will suit them. They also tell me it's lovely ground.'
