Trainer Tom Hogan is plotting a route towards Gordon Lord Byron's defence of the Prix de la Foret in October following another excellent run in France on Sunday.

The five-year-old grabbed Group One glory at Longchamp on Arc day last year and although his only win since then was on the all-weather at Dundalk, he has run a number of superb races in defeat.

His latest effort was a fine third behind star sprinters Moonlight Cloud and Lethal Force in the Prix Maurice de Gheest yesterday.

Hogan feels his charge can improve on that performance when conditions are more in his favour.

He said: "It was another great effort from him and he was beaten by two very good horses on the day.

"Maybe we would have been better drawn closer to the big two and the ground was definitely quicker than the official going of good to soft, but, either way, he's run an absolutely super race.

"He was closing on them at the finish and the Prix de la Foret is the obvious big target for him again. We might meet Moonlight Cloud again there, which wouldn't be ideal, but maybe with a bit more cut in the ground we might get a bit closer.

"We have given him plenty of options before then, but we'll not make any plans just yet. He'll definitely have one more run, if not two, between now and the Foret. He loves his racing so no doubt he'll be back in action again in a few weeks."
