Holohan puts down his pen to win on Alto Sax Reese Holohan, who started his Leaving Cert on Wednesday, celebrated the prospect of an exam-free weekend when guiding Alto Sax (9/2) to victory in the second division of Fairyhouse's 0-60 handicap over a mile and a-quarter. Having tracked the leaders, the talented apprentice produced the blinkered five-year-old to head Miss Americana over a furlong out and the Saxon Warrior gelding kept on well to prove a length and a quarter too good for that rival. Owned by the Normal People Syndicate, Alto Sax was gaining his second success of the season for winning trainer Peter Fahey who said “He’s after drifting down the handicap and I think the step up to a mile and a-quarter probably helped him a bit more today. “Reese Holohan is flying it and taking a few pounds off him is a help. “He's starting to get a bit smarter out of the stalls, he was giving away a lot of races with slow breaks. “Shane Foley (on Miss Americana) slowed up the race in front today and he was able to get into it. He picked up in the straight. “He’ll keep tipping away in those low-grade handicaps.” Additional reporting by Gary Carson
