Retired-trainer Michael Hourigan’s daughter Laura Hourigan registered a notable success with her small team this evening, as cheaply-bought Unterberg (4/1) completed a hat-trick of recent wins in Dundalk’s Winter Series Awards Day Handicap.

Ridden by Rory Mulligan, Unterberg raced prominently throughout and held on well in the final furlong to beat Daonethatgotaway by three-parts of a length.

The success was Unterberg’s fourth this winter and a seventh overall, with Hourigan, who leads-up her horses, reporting "he just keep winning and I didn't think he would do three in-a-row!

"I thought he was going on a break after his win the last day but we had nothing coming up so with the (turf) ground being wet, so it was well worth having another go.

"He's very uncomplicated and Rory gets on great with him, anyone could ride him really.”

The Limerick-based ex-amateur jockey, whose father trained top jumpers Beef Or Salmon and Dorans Pride, added “this course has been a happy hunting ground for me and it suits the horses I have.

“I try to keep them happy and well in themselves and I’m getting busy now, so can’t complain.”
