Hughes Takes Kong Ride

Richard Hughes has been booked to ride Kong in the Vodafone Derby at Epsom next week.

The John Dunlop-trained colt was partnered by Richard Quinn when he beat Walk In The Park by a neck in the Lingfield Derby Trial earlier this month.

However, Quinn has opted to ride David Elsworth´s The Geezer in the mile-and-a-half Classic leaving Hughes free to partner Kong.

Quinn also rode Dunlop´s other Derby contender Unfurled to win the Predominate Stakes last time but the Arundel handler has yet to secure a jockey for the Unfuwain colt.

Marcus Hosgood, Dunlop´s racing secretary, confirmed: 'Richard Hughes will be riding Kong but we have still to finalise a jockey for Unfurled.'

Kong and Unfurled are both 25-1 shots with William Hill for the Derby.
