Hughes fails in appeal bid Richard Hughes will contact the British Horseracing Authority on Monday to see if they will be reciprocating a lengthy ban handed out to him by the Mumbai stewards after learning his appeal had failed. Hughes was handed a suspension in mid-February for not reportedly riding to instructions, an offence that is not punishable under British rules. The ban covers 15 meetings from March 11 until the end of the Mumbai season on April 29. The British turf season commences on March 31, the same day as the Dubai World Cup meeting. Hughes, currently in Dubai, said: "I've failed in my appeal. "I wasn't there, I had a spokesman there so I'm not really sure what happened and can't really comment. "I'm going down the road of talking to the BHA now and we'll see what they say, I'll give them a ring tomorrow. The ban means I wouldn't be able to ride until April 30 so I could do with sorting it out. "I don't know what went on so it's difficult for me to say much else, I just got the phone call with the bad news. I'm not sure of the procedure so we'll see what the BHA say."
