The PRL Group Maiden Hurdle in Gowran Park boiled down to a match between Huntin Boots and Brady Hartsfield in the betting, and it was 2/1 favourite Huntin Boots who finished much the stronger for Gordon Elliott.

Brady Hartsfield led narrowly two out from the favourite with Baila Conmigo just in behind them. Huntin Boots was going the better, though, as he edged ahead on the run to the final flights with Baila Conmigo giving best in third.

Huntin Boots jumped the last better than Brady Hartsfield and asserted on the run-in to sweep home by five and a half lengths from Brady Hartsfield (7/2). Baila Conmigo (5/2) dropped 16 lengths adrift in third.

Assistant trainer Lisa O'Neill said: "He's a lovely horse, a gorgeous-looking horse. He has plenty of ability.

As Sam (Ewing) said, he is learning on the job. He's not the most straightforward.

"It was lovely to see him do what he did there today. He'd run well in a couple of bumpers and we thought he'd be capable of doing that there today.

"I think even stepping further up in trip he'd improve also. It was a good performance and hopefully there's more to come from him."
