Trainer Michael O’Callaghan is hoping his I Am Superman can compete in today’s €100,000 Paddy Power Supporting Cancer Trials Ireland Irish Cambridgeshire, with softening ground unlikely to inconvenience the veteran.

Having begun his career for O’Callaghan in 2018, the high-class son of Footstepsinthesand enjoyed a fine spell in Australia from 2020 until 2023, where he landed two Group 2 contests. More recently, the nine-year-old’s rating has fallen to a current mark of 90 and, recently, has finished fifth and fourth respectively in two valuable handicaps.

O'Callaghan says "soft ground won't inconvenience him as he was second in a Group 1 on heavy ground in Australia.

"I think as he gets older too, he is appreciating a bit more kindness in the ground. It won't be heavy, heavy - it will be slow ground. I think he just likes a bit of kindness in his old legs.

"He ran nicely the last day and kind of caught the eye a little bit. He had a paddock accident at home and missed Galway and for that he probably missed a little bit of work, but he is as straight as we can get him and hopefully he runs well.

"After that, then he will go to Leopardstown (for Champions Weekend)."
